Product description

This plant offers both hardiness and beauty. It is a medium-size deciduous shrub. They prefer moist soils that are well-drained. Also, they can tolerate sun to partial shade areas.

During the flowering season of late-spring to mid-summer, the blooms arrive in small groups spread throughout the plant. They arrive in smaller bunches on panicles or stalks. The flowers emit an incredible fragrance and because of this they attract a number of pollinators.

The ovate leaves change in colour as the plant ages, from a bright yellow-green to a subtle, green colour.

It is a deciduous shrub and will eventually lose its leaves in preparation for winter. It is also very hardy and will easily survive cold winters. It should be mulched in the spring with a rich mix of organic material.

Aphids can present as a pest problem. And it can also be affected by a powdery mildew.

It works well in low maintenance flower borders and beds.

It is important to remember that during the blooming season, it will perfume the air with its rich and wonderful aroma for all to enjoy.

Instructions

Top Tip

Prune Philadelphus plants after flowering to maintain shape and remove dead wood, encouraging better growth and blooms.

How to Water

Water regularly, especially during dry periods. Keep the soil moist but well-drained, as Philadelphus does not like wet feet. Once established, the plant is relatively drought-tolerant but benefits from occasional watering.

How to Plant

Plant Philadelphus in well-drained soil with good sunlight or partial shade. Dig a hole twice the size of the root ball, place the plant in, and backfill with soil. Space plants about 120-180cm apart for proper air circulation.
