Product description

Phormium Cookianum ‘Cream Delight’ is an excellent evergreen shrub that forms an upright clump of long blade-like leaves emerging from the base of the plant. Phormium plants are native to New Zealand, sometimes also known as New Zealand Flax. Its evergreen variegated foliage looks very attractive and provides year-round interest in a garden. It is ideally grown in a low border along with other taller flowering shrubs.

Cream Delight is an easy to grow, decorative plant that requires low maintenance, even when used in containers. It features long and narrow arching leaves with a cream-yellow mid stripe and beautiful green margins, that are edged with brownish-red. It blooms inconspicuous yellow-green flowers but contains enough nectar to attract hummingbirds.

These are easy to grow plants that will thrive in a well-drained soil in a partial shade spot. Plant them in containers with good quality potting soil. When grouping it in borders, make sure to allow enough space for the leaves to gracefully arch. Water the young plants frequently, especially in hot and dry periods.

These are cold hardy plants but need protection from winter frost. Prune them to remove any damaged leaves annually. Add a generous feed of organic fertiliser in spring before the new growth emerges.

Phormium Cream Delight will create a highlight in your garden whether used as a single specimen or definitely in borders. Use them to decorate your patio or deck in large containers. Phormium Cream Delight is ideal for a tropical look in seaside gardens and rockeries.

Instructions

Top Tip

Prune Phormium's dead or damaged leaves regularly to maintain a neat appearance and encourage healthy new growth.

How to Water

Water Phormium regularly, especially in dry periods, but avoid waterlogging. Ensure the soil remains moist but well-drained. Once established, Phormium is drought-tolerant and requires less frequent watering.

How to Plant

Plant Phormium in well-drained soil in a sunny or partially shaded location. Dig a hole large enough to accommodate the root ball, place the plant in the hole, and backfill with soil. Water thoroughly after planting to help settle the soil around the roots.
