Product description

This gorgeous Apricot tree is a Prunus armeniacum - a deciduous fruit tree that grows flavoursome yellow-orange fruit tinged with red that should be ready to pick in Summer. The bright green foliage features in all seasons, except Winter when it falls away in time for fresh growth in Spring. Each piece of the succulent fruit is wonderfully juicy, although the tree also boasts lovely pink-white flowers in Spring and grows to a height and spread of 4m to 8m.

This variety is an MM106, making it a great orchard sized tree for your garden. It should be placed in full sunlight and can be grown in most soil types as long as they are kept moist and well-drained. This Prunus is also fully hardy and will be a stunning addition when given a large enough space to encompass its full growth.

Please Note: Images are for illustrative purposes only and designed to be a representation of the item(s) being sold. Depending on seasonality, deciduous plants may be supplied in their dormant state and without leaves. Plants may also be pruned back, lower than stated heights, to encourage new growth.

Instructions

Top Tip

Prune apricot trees annually in late summer to maintain an open, well-balanced shape. Focus on removing any dead, diseased, or crossing branches to improve air circulation and light penetration. Apricots bear fruit on the previous year’s growth, so be careful not to over-prune. For the best harvest, consider planting a compatible pollinator nearby, as some apricot varieties benefit from cross-pollination.

How to Water

Water apricot trees deeply immediately after planting and consistently during their first year to establish strong roots. Once established, water regularly during dry spells, especially in spring and summer when the tree is flowering or setting fruit. Ensure the soil remains moist but never waterlogged, as excessive moisture can cause root rot. Water in the early morning or evening to minimise evaporation and allow the tree to absorb the water effectively.

How to Plant

To plant an apricot tree, choose a sunny, sheltered spot with well-draining, fertile soil. Dig a hole twice the width of the root ball and slightly shallower than its depth. Position the tree so the graft union is above soil level, then backfill gently, firming the soil to remove air pockets. Water thoroughly after planting and apply a layer of mulch around the base to retain moisture and suppress weeds, leaving a gap around the trunk to prevent rot. If needed, use a stake to provide support and protect against wind damage.
