Product description
Tilia cordata is a medium-sized, deciduous, fast-growing tree with a spreading growth habit. Commonly known as small-leaved lime, this tree produces glossy, dark-green leaves that are smaller in size than its type species. In Summer, the tree displays clusters of small, white flowers.
A low maintenance, fast-growing tree. Position this plant in full sun or partial shade. Lime trees will thrive best in an alkaline, moist, well-drained soil.

Top Tip
Prune Tilia in late winter or early spring to maintain its shape and remove any dead or damaged branches. Regular trimming helps encourage healthy growth and airflow through the canopy, which reduces the risk of pests and diseases. Apply a balanced fertiliser in early spring to support vigorous growth and enhance the tree's overall health. Protect young trees with a stake during strong winds to ensure they develop a strong, straight trunk.
How to Water
Water Tilia deeply and consistently after planting to support root establishment, especially during the first year. Mature trees are relatively drought-tolerant but benefit from occasional deep watering during prolonged dry periods. Avoid waterlogging, as it can lead to root issues. Early morning or late evening watering helps minimise evaporation, ensuring the tree receives adequate hydration. Focus on watering the root zone rather than the leaves for the best results.
How to Plant
To plant Tilia, select a sunny or partially shaded location with well-draining, fertile soil. Dig a hole twice the width and the same depth as the root ball. Place the tree in the hole, ensuring the root flare is level with the soil surface. Backfill with a mix of soil and organic matter, firming it gently to eliminate air pockets. Water thoroughly after planting to help settle the soil and establish the roots. Add a layer of mulch around the base, keeping it away from the trunk to prevent rot and retain moisture.
