Product description

Weigela Black and White is a deciduous shrub which bases itself from the backdrop of dark green foliage. These leaves are joined by an array of elegant, white tubular flowers which fill the plant to great effect. The flowers will begin to bloom in May and June, with a gorgeous fragrance adding to those gorgeous shades and bringing another attractive feature to the shrub. Caring for this Weigela, planting it in moist, well-drained soil is best, as well as positioning it in full sun at the best of times. Watering is low maintenance, with the plant being drought tolerant to an extent. However, regular watering is preferred, especially in drier conditions.

Depending on seasonality, deciduous plants may be supplied in their dormant state and without leaves. Plants may also be pruned back, lower than stated heights, to encourage new growth.

Instructions

Top Tip

Prune weigela in early spring after flowering to remove spent blooms and shape the plant. This encourages healthy growth and more vibrant blooms the following season.

How to Water

Water weigela plants deeply, especially during dry periods, to keep the soil moist but not soggy. Once established, they are somewhat drought-tolerant. Water at the base and avoid wetting the leaves, which can cause fungal diseases.

How to Plant

Choose a sunny or partially shaded spot with well-draining soil. Dig a hole twice as wide and just as deep as the root ball. Place the plant, backfill with soil, and firm gently. Water thoroughly after planting and mulch to retain moisture. Space plants 90-120cm apart.
