Instructions

Top Tip

Prune Azaleas after flowering to maintain their shape and encourage new growth. Remove faded blooms and thin out overcrowded or dead branches to improve airflow and sunlight penetration. Avoid pruning in late summer, as this can remove next year’s flower buds. Apply a slow-release fertiliser for acid-loving plants in spring to promote vibrant blooms and healthy foliage.

How to Water

Water Azaleas deeply after planting and regularly during their first growing season to encourage strong root development. These plants prefer consistently moist but not waterlogged soil. Once established, water during dry periods, especially in summer, ensuring the soil does not dry out completely. Use rainwater whenever possible, as tap water can raise soil pH, which may hinder nutrient absorption. Water early in the morning to allow excess moisture to evaporate during the day.

How to Plant

To plant an Azalea, choose a partially shaded spot with well-draining, acidic soil. Soak the root ball in water before planting, then dig a hole twice as wide and slightly shallower than the depth of the root ball. Position the plant so the top of the root ball is level with or slightly above the soil surface, then backfill gently and firm the soil around the base. Water thoroughly after planting and apply a layer of organic mulch, keeping it a few centimetres away from the trunk. Space Azaleas 60–90 cm apart to allow room for their natural spread.
