Product description
Gynura Auranti is a tropical houseplant with unique, velvety foliage. Deepest green leaves are clothed in tiny purple hairs, giving this plant a dark and mysterious appearance, as well as a velvety touch which has earned it it’s nickname, the Velvet Plant.
Place your Velvet Plant in indirect light and water it just as the soil begins to dry out. Keep it moist at all times, but avoid overwatering.
Baby plants are excellent for anyone with smaller spaces to fill, and they make the perfect gift plant too! Gynura Auranti is an ideal choice for anyone looking for something unique which stands out from many other houseplants.
It’s not unusual to give your plant a name… so don’t hesitate to choose one that you think suits the plant! Try naming your plant with the first name or word that you think of when you look at it - that’s how we ended up with an orchid named Clover and spider plant called Joseph.
House Plant Size Guide
House plants come in a wide array of shapes and sizes depending on the variety and maturity of the plant.
6cm/12cm/15cm/19cm/23cm nursery pots are the most common size of pot that they are sold in. This measurement is the diameter at the top of the pot.
12cm potted plants are the most popular providing great value for money and an instant impact. Larger plants that come in pots of 20cm+ are great for making a statement in any room and can represent years of growth to get to that level of maturity and size.

Top Tip
Gynura thrives in a warm, humid environment, so consider misting its leaves occasionally or placing a small tray of water nearby to boost humidity. Pinch back growing tips regularly to encourage bushier growth and maintain its striking appearance. Rotate the pot every few weeks to ensure even light exposure and prevent the plant from leaning. With proper care, this unique plant will remain a vibrant and eye-catching addition to your home.
How to Water
Water Gynura regularly, keeping the soil evenly moist but not soggy. Allow the top 2–3 cm of soil to dry out slightly between waterings to avoid overwatering. During the growing season, water approximately once a week, adjusting for indoor conditions, and reduce watering in the cooler months when growth slows. Use filtered or rainwater if possible, as tap water can leave mineral deposits on the leaves.
How to Plant
To plant Gynura, choose a pot with good drainage and fill it with a well-draining, nutrient-rich potting mix. Remove the plant from its container carefully, loosen the roots slightly, and position it so the base of the stem sits just above the soil surface. Backfill with soil, firm gently, and water thoroughly to settle the roots. Place the pot in a location with bright, indirect light to encourage healthy growth and maintain the vibrant purple hue of the foliage.
