Product description

Being an evergreen, the glossy green leaves will be present year-round and add a vibrant note of green to your garden during the winter months.

The Camellia Japonica “Silver Anniversary” has an exquisite semi-double flower. It has a brilliant white color to its petals which are laid out in intricate swirling and crinkling patterns.

And there is a wonderful contrast presented within the bloom, of bunches of brilliant golden-orange stamens.

The plant prefers partially-shaded areas, which offer protection, but allow regular moisture to be available. One ideal situation for this plant is to use a carefully maintained pot that allows for a more acidic soil while retaining moisture, but drains well.

With winter protection in colder climates, the Camellia species is easily able to over-winter and provide you with wonderful late-winter, early spring blooms. However, this is why placement is critical for the planting area. In addition to being sheltered and protected for winter, this plant needs to avoid exposure to the rising sun as this can cause the blooms to spoil while there is still frost on the plant.

Instructions

Top Tip

Protect Camellias from harsh afternoon sun and frost by planting in sheltered spots. Add mulch annually to retain soil acidity and moisture.

How to Water

Water regularly, especially during dry periods. Keep soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Use rainwater if possible, as Camellias prefer slightly acidic water. Avoid wetting the leaves to reduce disease risk.

How to Plant

Choose a partially shaded spot with acidic, well-draining soil. Dig a hole twice the size of the root ball but no deeper than its height. Position the plant with the root crown above soil level. Backfill, firm gently, and water well. Mulch to maintain moisture and suppress weeds.
