Product description
These Golden Emblem decorative dahlia bulbs grow into attractive perennials with rich green foliage acting as the perfect backdrop for the huge, bright golden yellow flowers that decorate it from mid-summer until the first frosts. Each bloom reaches 20-25cm across, making these cheerful dahlias a popular choice for cut flower arrangements.
Perfect for growing in sunny beds and borders, dahlias are excellent plants for bees and butterflies, attracting pollinators with their impressive blooms. They are also suitable for growing in large pots and containers, making them ideal for brightening the patio. Plant these dahlia bulbs on their own or alongside other colours to create a truly eye-catching spectacle.
Dahlias prefer a sunny, sheltered spot in fertile, moist but well-drained soil. In late spring, after the risk of frost has passed, plant the tubers either in the ground or in pots, around 10cm deep and with 30-50cm spacing between bulbs. Water in well after planting and water regularly during dry spells as the plants grow and flower. Deadhead spent flowers to encourage a second flush of blooms. Once the flowers and foliage have died back for the season, cut the plants down to ground level and add plenty of mulch to protect the tubers from frosty temperatures. In colder areas, or where the soil is prone to waterlogging, it’s best to dig up the bulbs and store them over winter to re-plant in spring.
