Instructions

Top Tip

Prune Forsythia trees immediately after flowering to maintain their shape and encourage vigorous growth for the following season. Focus on removing old or damaged stems to promote fresh shoots, which will bear flowers the next year. Plant Forsythia in a position where its vibrant yellow blooms can be enjoyed as a focal point in your garden or as part of a mixed border for added seasonal interest.

How to Water

Water Forsythia trees regularly during their first year to establish a strong root system, particularly during dry periods. Once established, they are drought-tolerant but will benefit from occasional deep watering during extended dry spells. Avoid waterlogging the soil, as this can cause root rot. For best results, water early in the morning or late in the evening to reduce evaporation and ensure the roots have time to absorb moisture.

How to Plant

To plant Forsythia trees, choose a sunny or partially shaded spot with well-draining soil enriched with organic matter. Dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball and slightly shallower than its depth, ensuring the root collar is level with the soil surface. Backfill with soil, firm it gently, and water thoroughly to help the roots settle. Add a layer of mulch around the base to retain moisture and reduce weed growth, leaving a gap around the trunk to prevent rot. Forsythia thrives in sheltered locations but is hardy enough to withstand most weather conditions.
