The Lacebark tree is fully hardy and thrives best in full sun. it will grow in any well-drained garden soil and is suitable for both city and coastal gardens. In colder areas it is best to plant it in a sheltered spot away from cold winds. In a 20 year period it will reach heights of 4m with a spread of 1.5m.
If left unpruned, the Lacebark tree grows to Christmas tree style pyramidal shape. It can be clipped to create a hedge or screening barrier which offers cover throughout the year, ideal for urban gardens when privacy is needed.

Top Tip
Prune Hoheria in late winter or early spring to remove dead or damaged branches and shape the tree. This encourages a more compact and bushy growth habit, ensuring it remains healthy and visually appealing. Feed with a slow-release fertiliser in spring to promote vibrant foliage and flowering. Protect young trees from harsh frost to prevent damage, especially in colder regions.
How to Water
Water Hoheria deeply after planting and ensure the soil remains consistently moist during its first year to establish strong roots. Once established, the tree is relatively drought-tolerant but will benefit from regular watering during prolonged dry spells, particularly in summer. Avoid overwatering as Hoheria prefers soil that is moist but not waterlogged. Early morning or late afternoon watering is best to minimise evaporation and support healthy growth.
How to Plant
To plant Hoheria, select a sunny or partially shaded location with well-draining, fertile soil. Dig a hole twice the width and slightly shallower than the depth of the root ball. Position the tree so the top of the root ball is level with the soil surface, then backfill, firming the soil gently around the roots. Water thoroughly to help settle the soil. Add a layer of organic mulch around the base to conserve moisture and suppress weeds, keeping it clear of the trunk. Space plants at least 150 cm apart to allow for natural growth and airflow.
