Product description

Prunus persica ‘Me Red’ is a mid-season dwarf peach tree which has been adapted for patio container growing. These red skinned fruits have a firm but juicy yellow flesh that is refreshingly sweet.

In Spring the branches of the Prunus persica ‘Me Red’ is accommodated by a beautiful pink blossom. Its compact growing habit make it a perfect plant for an area where space is limited.

The Prunus persica ‘Me Red’ prefers loose and fertile soils, as well as a sunny position with partial ventilation, keeping the plant sheltered in the colder months.

Peach trees should only be pruned in the Summer months to decrease the risk of bacterial infections. Dwarf peach trees will only need occasional pruning to remove injured, badly placed or diseased wood.

Instructions

Top Tip

Feed Peach trees with a balanced fertiliser in early spring to support new growth and fruit development. Prune annually in late winter, before buds break, to maintain an open canopy that allows sunlight and air circulation. Thin fruits in late spring to ensure larger, healthier peaches and prevent the branches from becoming overloaded. Protect the tree from frost by covering it with horticultural fleece if necessary, especially during blossoming periods.

How to Water

Water Peach trees deeply and regularly during their first growing season, especially in warm weather, to establish a strong root system. Once established, water during dry spells or when the tree is in fruit to prevent stress and promote healthy yields. Aim for deep but infrequent watering to encourage deep root growth, ensuring the soil does not become waterlogged. Morning watering is ideal to minimise evaporation and allow the foliage to dry, reducing the risk of fungal diseases.

How to Plant

To plant a Peach tree, choose a sunny, sheltered spot with fertile, well-draining soil. Dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball and the same depth, ensuring the graft union sits above the soil level. Before planting, soak the roots in water for a few hours. Backfill the hole with soil, gently firming it to remove air pockets, and water thoroughly. Apply a layer of mulch around the base, avoiding direct contact with the trunk, to retain moisture and suppress weeds. Space trees adequately to allow for their mature spread and airflow.
