Product description

“Abbotswood White” is a compact, deciduous shrub with a round growth habit. It has small, dark-green pinnate leaves which are in groups of 5 leaflets, with each leaflet approximately 2 to 4 cm in length. Although it is deciduous, it is full hardy and can withstand most temperatures in Europe.

Generally, prefers full sun areas and produces numerous white flowers that are five-petaled and approximately 5 cm in diameter. Although it enjoys the sun, it can tolerate the shade. Full sun will decrease the longevity of flower life.

While it can tolerate a variety of soil types and full sun to partial shade, several suggested uses include: flower borders where its beautiful blooms can stand out; use as a compact ground cover due to its dense foliage; or in more rustic settings, it works great in coastal areas, as well as informal gardens around a cottage.

Remove dead or unwanted branches at the end of the season or at the onset of spring. This plant does well in most soil types, as long as the soil remains moist.

Instructions

Top Tip

Prune Potentilla annually in late winter or early spring to encourage compact growth and abundant flowering throughout the season.

How to Water

Water deeply and regularly during the first growing season to establish roots. Once established, they are drought-tolerant but benefit from occasional watering during prolonged dry periods. Avoid overwatering, as they dislike soggy soil.

How to Plant

Choose a sunny or partially shaded location with well-draining soil. Dig a hole twice the size of the root ball. Place the plant at the same depth it was in its container, backfill, and firm the soil. Water thoroughly after planting and add mulch to retain moisture and reduce weeds.
