Product description

A reasonably versatile and low maintenance herbaceous perennial with great flower shape and rich colour. The Astrantia 'Claret' is a variety of Masterwort with deeply lobed or divided, mid-to-dark green foliage beneath slender, wiry stems holding deep purple-red, pincushion-like flowers consisting of umbels of tiny florets surrounded by long, narrow bracts from early Summer and throughout.

Plant in moist, humus-rich, fertile, well-drained soils and keep in full or partial sun in a sheltered position. Tolerates drier soils and conditions once established but does not tolerate drought conditions.

Please Note: Images are for illustrative purposes only and designed to be a representation of the item(s) being sold. Herbaceous plants die back below the soil in the Winter and may be supplied in their dormant state during this time. Fresh growth will be seen the following Spring.

Instructions

Top Tip

Deadhead spent blooms to promote a longer flowering period.

How to Water

Water regularly, particularly during dry spells.

How to Plant

Dig in plenty of garden compost and plant in spring or autumn in rich, moist but well-draining soil. Astrantia grows well in full sun or partial shade but prefers a little shelter from strong afternoon sun. Create a hole slightly wider than the root ball and position the plant before backfilling, firming gently as you go. Water in well after planting.
