Product description
A bushy evergreen which is native to more arid, rocky regions of the Mediterranean and is therefore for accustomed to poorer quality sandy soils. The Cistus purpureus is a bright and richly coloured shrub with narrow, wavy, dark green leaves which contrast nicely with the deep purple-pink flowers which appear in Summer. The flowers have yellow centres and each of their petals carry dark red spots at their base. The flowers usually only last around a day, autumning quickly and being replaced with fresh blooms constantly.
Plant in any moderately moist, well-drained soil and keep in full sun. Grows well in poorer condition soils but will require full sun and a sheltered position. Drought tolerant once established.
Please Note: When purchasing plants please consider that each live item is unique and may, therefore, differ from the images shown, which are for illustration purposes only. This plant will be supplied in a grower’s pot.
Garden Plant Size Guide
Plants in larger pots can be multiple years older than their smaller counterparts with more mature root systems and foliage. This makes them able to thrive as a full size plant in your garden quicker than smaller alternatives.
The most common size of pot that garden plants come in are 9cm/1L/3L/5L this is in reference to the diameter at the top of the pot.
9cm potted plants still remain the most popular cost effective option though, they just may take a little patience to allow them to grow into full maturity once planted in your garden.

Top Tip
Cistus doesn’t tolerate hard pruning well and doesn’t like to be moved, so choose your spot carefully and leave plenty of space for it to grow into.
How to Water
Water regularly throughout the first growing season until fully established. After this, cistus is drought tolerant and only needs to be watered during particularly dry spells.
How to Plant
Plant cistus in a warm, sheltered, sunny spot in light, well-draining soil. Dig a hole twice as big as the nursery pot and position the plant so the top of the root ball is at soil level. Backfill the hole with soil and compost, firm down gently, and water in well.
