Product description

“Gold Star” is a small, deciduous shrub with a rounded growth habit. It has small, medium-green or slightly blue-green, pinnate leaves. Unlike other cinquefoil, this cultivar is resistant to powdery mildew.

Flowers are saucer in shape and the petals are a vibrant yellow colour with central orange to yellow coloured stamens. Each flower is approximately 4 cm in diameter. The flowers cover the entirety of the plant in a wonderful yellow and attract bees and butterflies.

Although it enjoys the sun, it can tolerate the shade. But, full sun will decrease the length of life for the individual flowers.

Remove dead or unwanted branches at the end of the season or at the onset of spring. Being deciduous, this plant will come back in the spring time as it is full hardy and can withstand most temperatures in Europe.

As it is a more compact shrub, it grows well in flower beds and as accents in shrub borders. It provides great groundcover when planted in groups. Or use as a colourful addition to your flower beds or border plantings.

Instructions

Top Tip

Prune Potentilla annually in late winter or early spring to encourage compact growth and abundant flowering throughout the season.

How to Water

Water deeply and regularly during the first growing season to establish roots. Once established, they are drought-tolerant but benefit from occasional watering during prolonged dry periods. Avoid overwatering, as they dislike soggy soil.

How to Plant

Choose a sunny or partially shaded location with well-draining soil. Dig a hole twice the size of the root ball. Place the plant at the same depth it was in its container, backfill, and firm the soil. Water thoroughly after planting and add mulch to retain moisture and reduce weeds.
